Where do most of YOUR Substack Notes ideas come from?
Mine are often hiding in something I’m already doing—an article I published, a comment someone left, a conversation I had, or an idea I’m still trying to figure out.
And I think that’s where Notes get a whole lot easier.
So next time you’re staring at that empty Notes box thinking, What the hell am I supposed to post? 😂
Jess, this is a fantastic article and much of what you describe, is what I have been doing. I appreciate the suggestions in looking at notes in a different way!
I'm new on Substack and have a LOT to learn about the platform. Your article gives me some valuable info regarding using Notes to promo articles and gather info about new article topics. Thank you for sharing.
thanks, Karen!!! I'm glad this was helpful for you. when you do your articles, schedule the promo notes on the timer before and after, while youre publishing the articles so you do the posts and notes all at once!
These are great tips. I never thought about clipping a sentence or two from my articles. I've been doing a lot of jokes (since my category is humor), but sometimes it's hard to think of original ones. Thanks!
hi, Brandon! I'm glad the tips were helpful for you. when you are publishing your articles look for any one-liners or 1-2 sentences that stand out and are valuable and use that for notes. then, post those notes on the timer to post when your article comes out. so you get the article and the notes for it all done at the same time. if you need ay help feel free to reach out via DM!!
Yeah, I do the “quote restack,” but those are more promotional, which don’t do as well. Clipping a sentence or two is better. Thanks for the offer of help. I’ll reach out! 😁
Another truly helpful piece Jess. Most of my notes do come from my long form pieces and I balance them with some peeks into my life so people also relate to the peson behind the pieces too.
Another addition to your comprehensive list is photos on your phone. What you found interesting enough to take a picture of is probably noteworthy :)
Definitely!! Photos in your phone are simple no brainer notes to post daily on the timer! I’m so glad this article is helpful to you! I appreciate you reading!
I’m curious 👇

Don’t invent something yet.
Tell me where you usually look first. 👑
Working smarter not harder. Good examples within of how to do exactly that.
Thank you so much, Mark!!!
