I’m curious about this one 👇

Has a conversation you started on Substack Notes ever turned into something bigger?

A new subscriber. A friendship. A collaboration. A client. Someone you now talk to regularly.

I think we spend so much time asking, “What should I post on Notes?” that we can miss what happens after someone responds.

That’s where it gets interesting.

Tell me about a relationship that started with a Note, comment, or random Substack interaction. I’d love to hear the story. 👑

Thank you so much, Melanie! We appreciate you so much! I also came for the long-form writing and don’t really like Notes either but like you said they’re necessary and it’s all good!!

As I suspected, I wanted to give this one the attention it deserved, so I waited till later in the day to read it.

Excellent stuff as always Jess and Robyn.

Notes has always been a necessary evil to me. You have to do them and probably more importantly, engage with the notes of others if you want to be seen, get support and make connections to get the audience that you actually came to Substack for--long-form writing.

I'm happy to say I do all of the 7 types except I don't ask as many questions as I probably could.

What was truly refreshing about this piece was that there's no crime in covering lots of topics and it's okay not to lay awake nights thinking of how to beat the algorithm. It really isn't about getting a note viral, it's what you get out of it.

Finding the special people (like you Jess) who become fans of your work who will actually read and support it, those who will collaborate and those who become paid subscribers, book buyers or ultimately clients of what you do outside of Substack itself.

One personal back and forth exchange I had with a free subscriber ultimately led to them becoming a coaching client which is worth far more than a bunch of paid subscribers monetarily--although I love those who are joining me that way as I write my next book too :)

It's all good!
