I never let metrics determine how I feel. By the time I publish my most personal pieces, I already went through a very emotional release that means more to me than anyone else’s validation!
Thanks for writing this up, Jess, I actually needed this! My recente one, Torch #21, was something I really put my heart/soul into just for it to get 8 likes (my least performing article in months). However, I now see that I can separate the quality from the performance. Time to keep publishing 😤
You’re very welcome, Dido! I’m so glad it was helpful for you! I can totally relate to putting my whole heart into a piece and it not “performing well” or it flopping. But that’s why I say you must enjoy writing and the topic you write about because you’re not always going to get engagement but as long as you enjoy the writing process and the got something out of writing the article then it’s still a win-win. Also now you post will be online for people to find and relate to for years to come!!!
I want to know what happens in your head when an article doesn’t perform the way you expected.
Do you immediately start questioning the headline?
Your topic?
Your writing?
Your entire existence as a person with internet access? 😂
One bad article can make you forget about the ten things that were working before it.
So tell me: What’s your first reaction when a post flops and how long does it take you to stop messing with everything because of it? 👑

That’s the whole game!!!!!!
Before you even click publish you ALREADY won.
